Location of the Hotel Sorapiss one of the best places to stay

In the winter the hotel is wrapped in a white blanket; in the summer it is lit up with iridescent colours, reflecting sky blue and green hues making it one of the best places in dolomites.

With Tre Cime di Lavaredo as a majestic backdrop, Misurina enjoys one of the finest panoramas of the Alps. The lake is a mirror of pastel hues, the landscape turning into a warm embrace.

Misurina, the pearl of the Dolomites

Legend has it that a spoilt and vain girl, called Misurina, wanted the mirror that belonged to the fairy that lived on Mount Cristallo. She begged her father, King Sorapiss, to make her wish come true.

So the King took his daughter to Mount Cristallo. The fairy did not want to give her mirror away, but thanks to Misurina’s persistence she decided she could have it subject to one terrible condition: that her father would be turned into a mountain (Sorapiss) to protect with its shadow the flowers in the fairy’s garden, which were always in the sunlight. As her father began this transformation, the girl witnessed the macabre spectacle, fainted and fell down the mountain to the valley below. The tears of sorrow cried by her father went to form Lake Misurina. This story is very mystical and truly makes the area one of the best places in Dolomites.

Sung about by Claudio Baglioni and extolled in a number of Giosuè Carducci poems, Misurina is known as “The Pearl of the Dolomites”.
A small tourist resort situated in a magical basin, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Veneto region, visited by winter sport enthusiasts and by everyone wanting to have a relaxing time, surrounded by natural wonders.

Misurina, in the heart of the Dolomites, is just 10 km from the famous Cortina d’Ampezzo, in the municipality of Auronzo di Cadore, in the province of Belluno.

Lake Misurina is the largest natural lake of the Cadore area, and offers a wonderful spectacle in both the summer and winter, in a beautiful valley encircled to the north by Tre Cime di Lavaredo, to the east by the Cadini mountain range, to the west by Mount Cristallo and to the south by the beauty of the Mount Sorapiss range, mirrored in the calm waters of the lake.

In addition to Cortina d’Ampezzo, other places to visit nearby include Auronzo di Cadore, Dobbiaco, San Candido. Marvellous places that can be visited while leaving the car at the hotel.

Asthma and the microclimate

The high altitude, lack of humidity, abundance of ultraviolet rays, absence of sudden climate changes and low concentration of antigens make Misurina an ideal destination not just for summer and winter holidays but also for treating respiratory ailments.

Indeed, Misurina hosts a world renowned clinic for the treatment of child asthma.

The benefits of staying in Misurina derive from the practically complete absence of allergens, which trigger asthma attacks.

From the Istituto Pio XII website:children with asthma coming to stay at Misurina will have no need, or a reduced need, for pharmacological treatment, improving their state of health, development and quality of life.

... the youngest competitor at the Camignada, an amateur running race starting out from Lake Misurina every first Sunday of August, was David, a child aged just 2 years and 8 months (1993). The oldest was Dionisio, aged 83 (2009).

... from 1908 to 1910 Gustav Mahler spent his summer holidays in this area. The Music Weeks of Dobbiaco (July, August) are inspired by the famous composer’s association with the town."
